Convert AVIF to JPG

AVIF is a newer image format that's very small for its quality, and more websites and phones use it every year. Plenty of apps, printers and forms still can't open it, though. Convert your AVIF to a standard JPG here; the image is decoded by your browser and never uploaded.

Your image is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. Many online editors send your photo to their servers and delete it later — this one never receives it at all.

Why use AVIF to JPG

  • Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP and SVG
  • Output: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or BMP, in any modern browser
  • Choose a background colour for transparent areas in JPG and BMP output
  • Processed locally — no upload, no waiting in a queue
  • Keeps the original pixel dimensions
  • Pro: convert up to 100 images in one batch

Popular uses

  • Turning WebP images saved from the web into JPGs that any app can open
  • Converting screenshots from PNG to smaller JPGs for sharing
  • Saving AVIF files as PNG for editing software that can't read AVIF
  • Preparing WebP versions of site images for faster page loads

AVIF to JPG: frequently asked questions

What is an AVIF file?

AVIF is an image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes smaller files than JPG or WebP at similar quality, so websites use it to load faster, but support in older software is still patchy.

Why won't my AVIF image open?

Older versions of Windows, image editors and many upload forms don't support AVIF yet. Converting to JPG gives you a file that opens everywhere.

Does converting AVIF to JPG lose quality?

Slightly, because JPG is lossy, but at the default quality most people can't tell the difference. The JPG is usually larger than the AVIF.

What if my browser can't read the AVIF?

The conversion relies on your browser decoding AVIF. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can; if yours can't, update it and try again.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser, so the image stays on your device.
